My great friend and brilliant artist John Keane and I have a little fun competition running between us where we pick a comic book character and each of us draws their version of said character; I, being one of the biggest Hugo Pratt fans in the world, chose to do the immortal Corto Maltese…and here, for my sins, it is.It pales into insignificance beside the work of Mr. Pratt I know but I kinda like it. Why not hop on over to John's Blog to see his brilliant Corto, too.

Another preparatory sketch; with this one I was experimenting with the use of negative space and trying to illustrate a figure with as little visual infornmation as possible. Some of the artists I admire like Sergio Toppi or Dino Bataglia are masters of this.

Did this one yesterday and am quite pleased with it. Getting used to breaking in the new pen nibs; have to tame the little beggars.

More warm-up sketching.

A promo illo drawn last year for a possible sequel to the BLOOD NATION series I created and wrote that came out from Image a while back.

Warm up sketches for a graphic novel project I'm writing/drawing; it's set during the First World War so I'm trying to capture the faces and costume of that era. These are done with a dip pen holding a Gilot 303 nib and a Pentel watercolour brush pen filled with Sentelier black ink.
